The Mount Avoca Story

Mount Avoca has been part of that story from the very beginning.

In 1970, John and Arda Barry purchased a 400-acre property on the outskirts of Avoca. While many saw grazing land, they saw something more. Soon after arriving, they planted the vineyard's very first vines, laying the foundations for what would become one of the Pyrenees' most respected family wineries.

John believed great wine began with healthy land.

Long before sustainability became a common practice, he farmed with what the family simply described as a "clean" philosophy, working with nature rather than against it and always considering the long-term health of the vineyard.

Today, that philosophy lives on through his son, Matthew Barry.

Under Matthew's stewardship, Mount Avoca has evolved into a fully certified organic vineyard and winery, continuing the family's commitment to caring for the land while producing wines that genuinely express the character of the Pyrenees.

Every decision is made with the future of the vineyard in mind. By transforming grape skins and recycled organic materials into compost and continually enriching the soils, the Barry family believes exceptional wine begins long before harvest.
