Estate 2019 Merlot

Vegan Australia Certified
As one of Australia's most consistent Merlot producers this under-appreciated variety offers great value. Chateau Petrus sell for around $3000 per bottle and while not quite as expensive, Le Pin also from Pomeral and Cheval Blanc both often contain a bit of Cabernet Franc - funny thing is so does the Mount Avoca!
After the Wine of the Year for the 2018 Merlot and other trophies, the 2019 Merlot has won 11 medals at wine shows including Gold and Silvers, so is no slouch!
Treat yourself to this less fashionable variety and we think you will be pleasantly surprised.
COLOUR
Dark ruby red red of good intensity with a purple cherry colour and slow legs on the swirl.
NOSE
Clean and complex developed aromas of Blueberry jam and plum, fig and a subtle forest floor nuance.
PALATE
Clean developing full bodied flavours of fresh blackberry and warm toasty damson. A soft tannin impression across the palate gives way to a satisfying length of cherry toast and sweet coffee bean on the finish.
WINEMAKING
The fruit is harvested from two clones of mature merlot vines in section A & D on the estate vineyard. Traditional vinification techniques applied with minimal intervention to preserve its regional identity.
FOOD PAIRING
Roast beef or slow cooked lamb shanks with potatoes.
VINTAGE NOTES
Cool conditions in early spring enabled a subsequent long growing season. A
warm dry summer subsided into ideal cooler autumn conditions prior to harvest.
Vicrorian Wine Show - Gold, plus 2 Silver & 8 Bronze.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit - 90 points “A lovely rendition of the variety, showing ripe apricot, melon, lemon peel and oatmeal notes, leading to a supple palate that's ripe and rounded. Well supported by silky texture and juicy acidity, offering delightful drinking.” At its best: now to 2027
